Build a Bird Feeder

Turn a bottle into a bird restaurant.

⏱️ 30 min🧑 Grown-up helper needed

What you need

  • A clean plastic bottle
  • Two wooden spoons
  • String
  • Bird seed

What you do

  1. Grown-up: cut two small holes near the bottom of the bottle, and two smaller ones opposite.
  2. Push a wooden spoon through so the handle sticks out as a perch.
  3. Fill with bird seed through the top.
  4. Tie string round the neck and hang it somewhere cats can't reach.
  5. Keep a list of which birds visit.

What's really happening

Feeding birds in winter helps them survive cold nights when insects are scarce.
