The detail
Soy isoflavones are phytoestrogens with a chemical structure similar to human estrogen but with roughly 1/1000 the activity, and they preferentially bind the beta receptor rather than alpha. Meta-analyses of over 300 000 women show soy consumption is associated with reduced breast cancer risk and better outcomes in survivors.
Men can safely eat 1–2 servings/day; multiple meta-analyses show no effect on testosterone, sperm quality, or feminisation. Whole soy (tofu, tempeh, edamame, soy milk) is the best form.

- Where do vegans get protein?
From legumes, tofu, tempeh, seitan, whole grains, nuts and seeds. Most vegans easily meet or exceed the daily requirement.
- Why don't vegans drink milk?
Dairy cows are repeatedly impregnated and separated from their calves, and most humans lose the ability to digest lactose after infancy.
