The detail
Traditional loaves — sourdough, baguette, ciabatta, pita, focaccia, most sliced supermarket bread — are vegan. Enriched breads (brioche, challah, milk bread) contain dairy and eggs.
Ingredients to scan for: whey, casein, butter, milk powder, honey, mono- and diglycerides (may be animal-derived), and L-cysteine (often from human hair or duck feathers, sometimes synthetic).

Usually yes, but some cane sugar in the US is filtered through bone char. Beet sugar, organic sugar and unrefined sugar are always vegan.
- Can vegans eat pasta?
Yes. Dried pasta is usually just flour and water — vegan by default. Fresh pasta typically contains egg, so check the label.
- What are common hidden animal ingredients?
Watch for gelatin, whey, casein, lactose, carmine (E120), shellac (E904), L-cysteine, isinglass, lard, tallow, cochineal, and animal-derived mono- and diglycerides.
